Maya Caskie is a composer by night and a ballet pianist by day. She composes for ballets and writes classically-influenced folk songs - from balladic retellings of Victor Hugo novels to ghost tales to be sung around a campfire.

In 2024, she has been commissioned to compose the original ballet score for “Peter Pan” for the Japanese ballet company Studio Bontemps to be premiered November 2024.

In 2020, Maya published her first illustrated children’s book of piano pieces, “Maya’s Mountain” 「まやの山」, in association with Hope Notes Projects created by Soumik and Souvid Datta during the pandemic..

She has performed her original music across prestigious London venues (Vortex Jazz Club, Pizza Express Jazz Club, Green Note) with her all-singing, all-playing, all-women ensemble Caskie Trio.

Caskie Trio's new song Walk It Off   has been released!

This song is inspired by that Lord of the Flies-esque coming-of-age ritual known in the UK as the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Everyone has a story from their turbulent tween hikes through the English countryside - do you?

Check out our very first music video here, directed by Nicole Petrus Barracks and filmed by Louis Loze-Carey.

In 2024, I have been commissioned to compose an original score for Studio Bontemps' new original ballet - "Peter Pan".

"Peter Pan" is a double-act ballet based on the beloved J.M. Barrie novel, and will be premiering November 2024, in Hyogo, Japan, under the direction of Professor Misako Hiyane.

My sincerest, heartfelt thanks to Arts Council England who will be supporting the recording of this original score. The score album will be made available to listen to later this year.

Caskie Trio is an all-singing, all-playing, all-women ensemble from London performing their alternative folk songs, inspired by Ichiko Aoba and Punch Brothers. With Evie Coplan on cello, Nicole Petrus Barracks on violin and Maya Caskie on piano/guitar, the trio draw on their respective studies in classical and jazz performance and contemporary composition to create their colourful, feminine amalgam. In the last year, they have played sold-out shows across London at Pizza Express Live!, Vortex Jazz Club and The Green Note. They are a little but mighty band that brings a surprisingly full, warm and whimsical sound - glockenspiels, whistling solos and all.

In late 2022, I was commissioned to create a score for an original children's ballet, "Katie in London", for its premiere performance in London in Spring 2023!

I composed, arranged, recorded and produced a score for string ensemble and piano. From start to finish, it was one of the most joyful, playful musical experiences I've ever had.
